When a sewer problem is involved, upon arrival, our we may try to clear the sewer line with a long cable called a snake. When this does not work, he or she will use a sewer camera to view the interior of the pipe. They will invite you to look at the picture, which will show exactly what is causing the blockage.
A blockage can be caused by a number of problems. This may include a broken pipe, tree roots, shifting soil and other things. If your home was built many years ago, clay pipes were probably used. Over time, these pipes are inclined to break or be broken by roots, which will cause the sewage to back up. This is a common situation in older homes.
Fortunately, modern technology has introduced what is known as trenchless sewer repair. This allows a sewer to be repaired without having to dig a long ditch that tears up the landscape, sidewalk, driveway or other things that are located above the line.
Trenchless sewer repair is done by inserting a cable in the existing pipe and pulling through a flexible, seamless PVC liner which may be made of polyester, cloth, fiberglass or other material. This liner is coated with an Epoxy resin. With the assistance of air, the liner is pushed through the old sewer pipe. A bladder is then inserted and heated air is applied. This seals the liner to the current sewer walls, covers all leaks, cracks, and deters roots. The ends are sealed with water swelling gaskets and the entire pipe is then inspected with a Closed Circuit Television. This is known as a Cured In Place Pipe (CIPP).
In some instances, your sewer may be too damaged to be repaired. In this case, a method called Sewer Pipe Bursting is used. Sewer Pipe Bursting is done by attaching a steel cable to a new pipe and drawing it through the old one. This causes the old pipe to fragment and packs the surrounding soil. When in place, the pipe fuses together and forms a solid bond. This is another method of trenchless sewer replacement.
Sewer line repairs and/or replacement require not only precision and advanced equipment but a great deal of experience as well. In many cities a sewer contractor must be a Licensed Master Plumber, have sufficient insurance and a special bond in order to perform this work.
Water pipe and sewer problems can occur without warning in residential or commercial locations. As a sewer contracting company, we also have regular plumbers on site. This way, any water problem can be taken care of quickly and efficiently.
Blocked drains can cause overflows and flood an area. As a rule, this is caused by something in the sewer or pipe that does not belong there. Common items causing blockage include things such as hair, too much toilet tissue, sanitary products, toys, diapers, paper, grease and other things that can stop the water or sewage flow. You can eliminate some of this problem by checking the toilet regularly for unwanted objects, especially if you have small children, and not pouring grease down the sink.
Rainfall can also provide a problem by causing a backup of leaves and dirt. If your drainage system is not sufficient to carry the overflow, there can be a blockage. This makes it imperative that you keep your drainage areas clean or have one of our experienced personnel take care of the problem.
Another common problem, especially in older homes or businesses, is damaged water pipes. When a pipe develops cracks, holes, or splits, it will lead to an overflow if not immediately taken care of. This overflow can cause extensive damage to floors, walls and other areas. This can be very expensive if not tended to immediately. Our experienced plumber will be able to locate the problem, even inside the walls, and make the necessary repairs.
